AIFO INDIA​

Amici di Raoul Follereau has been working for people affected by Leprosy and people with disability in India. We support medical, surgical, social and rehabilitation activities for people affected by leprosy, all kind of disabilities and vulnerable groups. AIFO supports National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP). Dr. V Ekambaram (1917-2003), after serving in the Indian Army for 5 years, dedicated his life for leprosy eradication from 1950 onwards. He was the first State Leprosy Officer of Tamil Nadu & was involved in the planning and implementation of ‘Multi-Drug’ therapy by National Leprosy Elimination Programme (NLEP). In 1979 Dr. V Ekambaram became the Indian representative of AIFO Italy and in 1998 AIFO India was registered to address leprosy in India.

Where do we work?
AIFO supports NLEP in north east eight states and in Karnataka. AIFO also supports partner NGOs in Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, North East states.

Have extensive experience in working with underserved communities across 14 states. Since 2013 over 75,000 men, women & children with Leprosy have been identified, treated, cured and rehabilitated through education, livelihoods and care programs.
AIFO has also responded to emergencies & natural disasters across the country – most recent being response to Covid-19 in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and North-East.
